HARRISBURG ? Rep. Adam Harris (R-Snyder/Mifflin/Juniata) recognized Mariah Osgood of Middleburg for being chosen as one of two winners of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship yesterday.
?I applaud Mariah for her scholastic aptitude, leadership and commitment to our community,? said Harris. ?The Pennsylvania House Scholarship is a prestigious award, and Mariah and her family can be very proud of this accomplishment.?
Osgood is a student at Midd-West High School, where she is active in student council, class congress, national honor society, yearbook, health careers club, field hockey and several other activities. In addition to her outstanding academic performance and extracurricular activities, Osgood also holds a job as a sales associate at a local store and has volunteered for the American Red Cross and other area nonprofit organizations. She will attend Misericordia University in the fall.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Program is privately funded and does not receive any tax or other public funds. The scholarship provides four-year scholarships to two high school seniors per year. Each award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education institution for each of four years.
Criteria for the scholarship includes Pennsylvania residency, academic achievement, community involvement, demonstrated leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need. Applicants also are required to submit a personal essay and three reference letters. Awardees must maintain eligibility for all four years of college to receive ongoing awards.
